Even though it should be possible to have multiple (up to 3) copies of (almost?) all pets, and indeed multiple copies of the same pet can be caught through pet battles in the wild, it is impossible to add more than 1 copy of pets that are "learnt" from items, for example cats from the cat vendor in Elwynn Forest. The item is "consumed", but if a copy of that pet already is in the Pet Journal, another one is not added, even though it should be up to the total number of 3.

Here are some examples of pets from items that I've tried to get so far:
- https://www.wowhead.com/item=8485/cat-carrier-bombay - https://www.wowhead.com/item=8501/hawk-owl - https://www.wowhead.com/item=8487/cat-carrier-orange-tabby - this one is interesting because this pet can also be obtained by "learning it" from various beginner pet trainers like a spell, and in that case it is actually possible to add another copy of it to the Journal, so the whole issue seems to be more likely related to the processing of the items that "teach" pets, rather than to concrete pets themselves
